Change Your Life With Dental Implants

Are you suffering from missing, broken, or decaying teeth? Edentulous patients often suffer in silence thinking there is nothing that can be done to restore their smile. Whether you are missing just one tooth or a whole mouth of teeth, your smile can be restored thanks to dental implants.

At Sycamore Family Dental, we have been helping patients suffering with missing teeth all over the Livermore, CA area. Patients needing full mouth dental implants or full arch dental implants can regain their natural looking smiles in as little as one appointment. If you have been searching for the solution to your missing teeth, Dr. Lori Ross Tijerino at Sycamore Family Dentistry can help you!

Missing teeth can have detrimental, long-term effects on your oral health if not addressed right away. Tooth gaps can cause gradual shifting of the surrounding teeth, as well as possible future tooth loss thanks to bone degradation. The resulting effect on facial structure and the remaining natural teeth leads to an increase in pain and difficulty chewing and speaking. However, the effects of missing teeth go beyond just the physical.

Patients often confess to feeling self-conscious and hesitate to interact with others due to fear of judgement about their smile. This lack of self-confidence slowly breaks down our ability to interact with those around us and can be isolating. You deserve to feel good about your smile! Your oral health is important and should be a priority in enhancing your quality of life.

Stuck In Dentures? Missing Most Of Your Teeth? Not For Long!

Stuck In Dentures Missing Most Of Your Teeth

There are many people, a surprising number in fact, who are missing many teeth or all their teeth for a long time, and it’s a significant struggle. At Sycamore Family Dentistry, we have many options that can help. There are many people, a surprising number in fact, who have been missing many teeth for many years or have had no teeth for a long time. At our office, we have a variety of solutions that can help. We offer many full-arch solutions here, something as simple as a denture in some cases. There’s pros and cons to that, of course, that we also offer a clip-in smile where the denture can still come in and out, but has implants to support and stabilize all the way up to an all on X or full arch. Typical full arch surgery takes less time than you might think it’s done in a few hours. So which solution will work best for you? Depends both on what you’re looking for, of course, what your oral health is like, how much bone is there or isn’t there, and what timeline you’re looking at going forward with. So, one of the things I like about these options is it can be done strategically. So, you have the option of moving from one plan to the other. So for instance, if right now the clip-on option is the best for you, we try to plan it so that you could easily transition to an all on X or a fixed solution down the road. Many people, when they’re thinking about dentistry or implant options, are concerned about discomfort or the amount of downtime that they’ll experience. I am pleased to let you know that the discomfort is very minimal. We generally have people come back and say that they’re surprised at how easy the process was and how comfortable they were throughout, and that’s one of our priorities is to keep you comfortable and functioning in your life and in your day-to-day routine as much as possible. So, there’s no one size fits all for dentistry and implant dentistry is no different. The factors we look at are your health in general, your bone, the state of the teeth you have left, and we look at all of those things to determine which path is the most effective for you. Implant dentistry is amazing and I really love to see how it transforms someone’s life and their smile. They go from talking to their friends like this or not being willing to go out and be with friends or family at all to resuming their life. They’re able to pick up their social aspects. They’re able to eat with whatever they want comfortably and in a relatively quick period of time. To find out more about full arch dental implants and how it can affect your smile, please give our office a call and set up a consultation.

Missing Teeth at Sycamore Family Dentistry in Livermore

It’s very common to be missing a tooth and think that it’s not doing any harm or affecting your health or your smile. Unfortunately, that’s not true. When you’re missing a tooth, your jawbone shrinks, and you lose bone in that area. We also find that adjacent teeth shift or tip into the space or erupt into the space, and over time, that affects other teeth, and it just ripples throughout your life. When you’re missing a tooth or teeth as time goes on, it becomes more and more expensive and time-consuming to fix. As the bone shrinks, we have to have bone to put an implant in, so you need to have more extensive and additional grafting procedures. We also see that the sinuses, if it’s an upper tooth, enlarge and drop down. So, by waiting longer, you’re more likely to need something like a sinus lift to get enough bone height or width to put an implant option in.

Over time, those costs add up quickly and tremendously, and it also adds time and steps to the process to fix it. So when you lose a tooth, the changes start happening immediately unless you plan for success. Going down the road within the first year of losing a tooth, there’s a significant loss of bone structure. The bone collapses in and in the front moves back, and they happen surprisingly quickly. So, from the time that you’re missing a tooth to the time that you don’t have enough bone to replace it with an implant, depends on many factors, such as your age, your health, what medications you’re on, and what you do in your day-to-day life. For a typical healthy individual, within a couple of years, it would be ideal to get an implant in. If you are somebody who has other health issues or medical factors, it can be shorter.

Generally, a dental bridge is not nearly as good an option as a dental implant because a bridge works by borrowing strength from teeth around it. Teeth aren’t designed to do that, so you’re asking the teeth on either side to do extra work, which, over time, causes those teeth to fail more quickly. If you do have a bridge, chances are it won’t last a lifetime, so it’s not a one-and-done solution. You’re looking at having a bridge many times, and that oftentimes causes other teeth to fail as well. So, the problem just compounds. If you have a single missing tooth or multiple missing teeth. Please call and set up a consultation before things get worse so that we can find a solution that’s right for you.

Dental Implants Myths at Sycamore Family Dentistry in Livermore

There are a lot of myths around dental implants, and we want to give you the truth. Many people believe that implants are more expensive than what they actually are. Particularly when you take into account that it’s a lifelong solution. Something like a bridge or a denture is not going to last a lifetime for you. You’ll have to have it done multiple times. Whereas an implant, if you plan it well, can be done once and it’ll last you for many, many years. I think that implants are a surprisingly attainable solution for most people, and we try to find and work with you to find those solutions that help you feel like it’s approachable and attainable and fit within your budget. There are a lot of people that are concerned about whether or not they have enough bone for implants, and that is something we have to look at in order to have success with implant dentistry, but it’s also more manageable than people think.

So there’s a surprising number of ways that we can position the implants or angle the implants in some circumstances to take advantage of the bone that you do have. We’re also able to, with three dimensional imaging, find out exactly where you have bone that we can work with and strategically plan to take advantage of that. In some circumstances, we’re able to work with a situation where there’s been a little bone loss by using a guide or something that lets us place the implant very precisely into the area where you do have bone. In other circumstances, we’re able to augment the bone or graft or get bone where there wasn’t any so that we can get an implant that’s stable long-term. Most people are concerned about being without teeth. I would be too, and we have a few different approaches that allow us to keep you smiling with teeth in.

Sometimes, if it’s a full arch solution, there are teeth that are placed at the time of surgery, so you don’t even see yourself without teeth. Other times, there are different cosmetic solutions that can be used to help you have a tooth throughout the process. Many people express concern about discomfort related to dental implants and oral surgery in general. We are able to help keep dentistry comfortable and the implant process comfortable for you by using a combination of medicine and surgical techniques to help you be comfortable throughout and after the process.

Everyone comes to us with different dental backgrounds. Some people have had a very challenging one and are very apprehensive about coming into a dental office or ashamed to come into a dental office because of the state of their mouth or their oral health, and that’s unfortunate because we all come with a past. Everyone has a different story, and so at our office, we are very concerned about the comfort of our patients. From the time you walk in the door, we have a team that’s approachable and has gone through significant dental procedures themselves. So, if you’re missing a single tooth or you need a full of arch of teeth, come and let us put your mind at ease and answer any questions you might have about dental implants with a free consultation.

Choosing Dental Implants

Full mouth dental implants have become the go-to technology for patients looking to rejuvenate their smile. When patients think of whole mouth solutions to missing teeth, removable dentures are often the technology that comes to mind. Removable dentures are often less expensive than whole mouth dental implants, however in the long term many patients often agree the investment in full mouth dental implants is well worth it.

Removable dentures utilize adhesives to stay in place. They may shift while chewing and speaking and may feel uncomfortable over time to changes in facial structure resulting from bone loss. Removable dentures can be misplaced or damaged. Over time they may need to be replaced completely if fit adjustments no longer fix the issue of ill-fitting dentures.

Today, many patients opt for full mouth dental implants or full arch dental implants instead of removable dentures. Dental implants are made up of three components: post, abutment, and restoration. The post is anchored directly into the bone and mimics a tooth’s root by stabilizing the restoration and the surrounding bone. As a result, the implant helps prevent further bone loss and possible changes to surrounding facial structures. The abutment connects to the post and extends beyond the gumline to act as an attachment for the restoration.

Your restoration is customized just for you based on traits like skin tone and face shape to help your new smile look as natural as possible. Your full mouth dental implants or full arch dental implants are a permanent solution to missing teeth. No more struggling with adhesives or ill-fitting removable dentures. Your full mouth dental implants help prevent bone loss and help you feel more confident about sharing your smile with others. Sycamore Family Dentistry is ready to help you on your smile makeover journey and it’s easier than you think!
