What is a smile makeover?

Dr. Lori Ross Tijerino of Sycamore Family Dentistry in Livermore, California, describes the cosmetic smile makeover as a combination of aesthetic dentistry services to achieve full smile restoration. This includes the use of cosmetic dentistry solutions such as the following.

  • Dental implants – Dental implants are best used to replace a missing tooth or teeth. They are sturdy and long-lasting, making them an ideal solution for those who want to improve their smile. Most patients will enjoy tooth replacement with a dental implant for a lifetime with proper care!
  • Porcelain veneers – Veneers are described by our team as thin shells of porcelain bonded to the front of the teeth to improve their overall look. They can address issues such as discoloration, chips, and gaps in the teeth.
  • Teeth whitening – This popular cosmetic dentistry procedure uses bleaching agents to lighten and remove the stains from the teeth right here in our office using professional-strength products. Our teeth whitening treatments provide faster, more noticeable results than any over-the-counter kits.
  • Orthodontics – Clear aligner therapies such as Invisalign are often used to straighten misaligned teeth, improving the smile’s appearance and function. Invisalign trays are clear, so they can be worn to align the teeth without the embarrassment of metal brackets and wires.
  • Dental crowns – Crowns are tooth-shaped caps placed by a dentist over damaged or discolored teeth to improve both appearance and strength. They can be made from various materials, including porcelain and metal, or a combination of both.

What are the benefits of a smile makeover?

Cosmetic smile makeovers are not just about improving the aesthetics of the smile but also enhancing its function. Specific cosmetic dentistry procedures can also have functional benefits. For example, dental implants not only fill in the noticeable gap left by a missing tooth but also provide support for surrounding teeth and help prevent bone loss in the jaw.

Additionally, a cosmetic smile makeover can significantly improve self-confidence and self-esteem. A healthy, beautiful smile can make an individual feel more attractive and confident in social situations. It can also have positive effects on personal and professional relationships.

Full Mouth Makeover at Sycamore Family Dentistry in Livermore

My name is Lori Ross. I practice at Sycamore Family Dentistry in Livermore, California, so a full mouth makeover can happen because either someone just doesn’t like their smile or because the teeth are failing and can’t be fixed, and that is when we need to fix it. We use dentistry to address those issues and give ’em a smile that they’re happy with. A full mouth reconstruction is done when an individual either doesn’t like their smile or has lost their teeth, and we fix that by using implants or crowns or veneers, sometimes bonding to create a smile that they enjoy. A crown versus a veneer is basically, a veneer is when you place a ceramic material or a composite resin or just the front, sometimes the side of the tooth, versus a crown, which covers or protects the tooth circumferentially. So, 360 degrees round. When there’s a lot of crowding, we need to evaluate their teeth and their bite and determine what our options are.

There are almost always multiple options. Sometimes it involves preparation or repositioning the teeth. Sometimes, it doesn’t, and oftentimes there’s a choice. So determining whether they need to move teeth or get braces versus if we can just do the cosmetics or the rehabilitation, is a discussion that happens between myself and the patient. Oftentimes, if they’re willing to do some of that preparation work, we can be more conservative and keep more natural tooth structure. So everyone wants a brighter smile. It makes you look younger and healthier, happier. There’s a variety of ways that we can help with that. We have everything from a whitening strip, which is better than what you can get over the counter, to custom trays all the way up to an in-office whitening procedure or a combination of all of those, and which one is best depends on how much of a change you want.

There are many reasons why someone could be concerned about showing their smile. Sometimes, it’s color; sometimes, it’s broken teeth or decayed teeth that are visible in the front of the mouth; sometimes, it’s pain. It’s hard to want to smile big when you’re hurting, and we have ways to help with all of this. Having a smile that you’re self-conscious about affects you in many ways. Your confidence is lower; you’re less outgoing and less likely to laugh or go out to eat with your friends. There are studies that show that you’re less likely to get hired for a job if you don’t have a smile that you’re comfortable and confident using. So by addressing that, whatever the root causes are, you’re just set up for that next level of success and happiness. If you’re unhappy with your smile, if you’re embarrassed or uncomfortable, give our office a call. Check out our website, come in for a consultation, and we’ll help you find your perfect smile.
